What to Know (Q&A)
Q: Why did Bevi make a new chiller?
A: The Gen 2 Chiller was designed to improve production efficiency while incorporating a few small, but meaningful updates to improve the design. The new design is made from fewer parts, removes the ice bank float switch, and integrates more user-friendly lift handles.
Q: When will Gen 2 Chillers start shipping in new Bevi Standup 2.0s?
A: New Standup 2.0 machines manufactured as of August 13, 2024 have Gen 2 chillers.
Q: Will Gen 2 Chillers be available to order as spares? (if so, when?)
A: Yes. Gen 2 Chillers will be available to order as spares in mid-October 2024.
Q: Does the Gen 2 Chiller impact machine performance or functionality?
A: The Gen 2 Chiller delivers the same level of chilling performance as the Gen 1 chiller, and integrates into the Standup 2.0 with the same screws, plumbing connections, and electrical connections. Like the Gen 1 Chiller, the Gen 2 chiller is able to monitor ice bank level, but does so without a float switch to improve product quality.
Q: Will the Gen 2 Chiller be compatible with Standup 2.0s originally equipped with the Gen 1 chiller?
A: Yes, Gen 2 Chillers are backwards compatible and can be used in Standup 2.0 machines originally equipped with a Gen 1 Chiller. Gen 2 Chillers will be “plug and play”, no additional supporting hardware or software updates are required.
Q: How can I tell which chiller version is installed in my Standup 2.0?
A: The chiller version is listed in Service Panel > Machine Alerts > Troubleshooting Tools and is also listed in the “Machine Identifiers” section on The Well. The two versions are also visually different: the Gen 1 Chiller has a metal top surface, while the Gen 2 Chiller has a white plastic top surface. See How to Identify Chiller Type below for more details.
Q: Are the Gen 2 Chillers compatible with other Bevi machines?
A: No. Currently, both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Chillers are only compatible with Standup 2.0 machines. It cannot be used in Standup 1.X, or CT machines.
Machine Compatibility
- Both Gen 1 and Gen 2 chillers will be compatible with all Bevi Standup 2.0 models.
- Remove & Replacement procedures will remain the same between both versions.
- Water system is unchanged, and all tubing connections are the same size and in the same locations.
Key Differences & Details
OLD "Gen 1” Chiller: FRU P/N #105311-01
- Metal top cover.
- Both Min and Max Ice Sense Pins.
- Gen 1 Chillers have both Min and Max Ice sense pins that detect the level of ice growth in the ice bank.
- Ice Bank Level Float Switch.
- Gen 1 Chillers use a float switch to detect when the ice bank is full or low.
- Recirculation Pump Bracket.
- Larger metal bracket to secure the Recirculation pump in place.
NEW "Gen 2” Chiller: FRU P/N #110369-01
- Molded plastic top cover.
- No Max Ice Sense Pin.
- Gen 2 chillers will only have a Min Ice pin, and will no longer include a Max Ice pin.
- Ice Bank Level Sense Pin.
- Instead of using a float switch like the Gen 1, Gen 2 chillers will now use a level sense pin to detect the Ice Bank level.
- Dedicated transfer pump tube hole.
- There is now a dedicated hole to allow you to more easily feed a pump tube into the ice bank to properly drain the ice bank.
- Ice Bank Fill tube connection.
- The push-to-connect fitting for the Ice Bank Fill tube is now a molded stand off on the plastic top cover.
- Updated compressor and condenser. (not pictured)
How to Identify Chiller Type
Method 1: Physical identification.
- Looking at the top panel of the chiller itself will help you determine if it is a Gen 1 or Gen 2 chiller.
- Metal top cover for Gen 1.
- White plastic cover for Gen 2.
- Gen 2 Chillers also have white molded foam insulation, visible with the back panel removed.
Method 2: Onscreen Software Identification.
- The Chiller Sensor Harness is pinned differently between Gen 1 and Gen 2 chillers which allows the software to automatically detect which version is installed.
- When accessing the Troubleshooting Tools menu within the service panel, you can find the Chiller Version in the Chiller data.
- Chiller version will be listed as “Bevi Chiller (Gen 1)” or “Bevi Chiller (Gen 2), or “Unknown”.
- If chiller version is Unknown, please contact Bevi Support at 866-704-2384 for assistance.
Method 3: Using the Well.
- From the Well unit page, you can find the chiller version in the Machine Identifiers section.
